“Most Beautiful Country”, the photo contest of the Russian Geographical Society, is dedicated to preserving the wild nature of Russia and promoting an attitude of care towards the environment through the art of photography.

The Russian Geographical Society has always invited the best writers, artists, journalists and photographers to speak about Russia’s nature, culture and history. There are unique works by famous researchers – D. Yermakov, N. Mikluho-Maklay, G. Tsybikov and others in our photo archive.
By the way, few are aware that the National Geographic magazine gained worldwide fame due to the publication of the first photographs of Tibet. These pictures were taken by Gombozhab Tsybikov and Ovshe Norzunov, members of the Russian Geographic Society.

There have always been many famous photo artists among the members of the Society: it is enough to think about Vladimir Schneiderov and Vasily Peskov. That is why we decided to launch our own Photo Contest open to everybody. The ideas, structure and categories of the contest are based on the huge experience that the Russian Geographical Society has gained for more than 170 years of researching Russia.

The project has aroused great public resonance and has become annual, and works of its finalists and winners are successfully exhibited in different countries.

Thus, in 2017 the best in the Society’s view photos were exhibited in the international airports and Russian cultural centers, on Moscow boulevards and on the main streets of Russia, as well as in 15 different countries. More than seven million people visited the exhibitions.

Works submitted to the Photo Contest are evaluated by a team of Jury consisting of famous public figures, famous photographers and representatives of the arts community. The primary selection of photos is made by the expert commission consisting of known photographers and heads of the country's largest photo agencies.
