The III Photo Contest of the Russian Geographical Society «The most beautiful country» State

 

1.General states

1.1.The III Photo Contest of the Russian Geographical Society «The most beautiful country» (hereinafter called as the Photo Contest) is being held in order to attract attention to the conservation of natural and cultural heritage of Russia, and education of careful attitude to the environment through the art of photography.

1.2.The All-Russian Public Organization «The Russian Geographical Society» (hereinafter called – the Society) is being the organizer and copyright of the Photo Contest and of any events, associated with the name «The most beautiful country».

1.3.The Photo Contest Organizer:

1.3.1. Sets the timing and terms of holding of the Photo Contest ;

1.3.2. Assigns an Expert Committee and the Photo Contest Jury (hereinafter called as the Expert Commission, the Jury).

1.4. The Photo Contest is being held from the 8th of February, 2017.

1.5. The Photo Contest is being held in (3) three stages:

- the 1st stage is «Reception of works» - from the 8th of February, 2017 to the 31th of July, 2017;

- the 2nd stage is «Qualifying» - is a work of the Expert Commission - from the 1st of August , 2017 to the 25th of August, 2017;

- the 3rd stage is «the Final» - the meeting of the Jury members – September (the date is to be confirmed).

1.6. The results of the Photo Contest are being published on the website of the Photo Contest photo.rgo.ru.

1.7. The winners in each nomination of the Photo Contest are getting money prize in the amount of 250 000 rubles taking into account the tax on personal income (more detailed information is in the item 9.1).

 

2. The Requirements for participation in the Photo Contest

2.1. Any author (a rightholder) of the photos provided for the Photo Contest can be a participant of the contest. The photographers from any countries and with no age limit are allowed to participate in the contest.

2.2. The organizers of the contest (the staff of the Executive Directorate of the Society, members of the management bodies of the Society), and the Jury and the members of the Expert Commission have no right to participate in the Photo Contest.

2.3. The photos, relevant to the topics of nominations of the Photo Contest, which are made exclusively on the territory of the Russian Federation, are accepted to the Photo Contest.

2.4. The photos, being provided for the Photo Contest, must be accompanied with the information about the shooting (the name of the work given by the author, a description of the object shown on the picture, the kind of animal, bird or plant, behavior observation, history snapshot, location, whether the kind is listed in the Red Book, whether there was used the bait or not (if so, what kind of the bait was it), etc.), and the technical information (camera, lens, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, special equipment having been used).

2.5.The common quantity of the photos, being sent for the Photo Contest, can not exceed 25 pieces.

2.6. One photo can not be presented more than in the only one nomination. 

2.7. The pictures of pets (cats, dogs, horses, etc.) and houseplants are not accepted for participation in the Photo Contest.

2.8.The pictures of animals, taken with the usage of  live bait and in captivity are not accepted for participation in the Photo Contest as well.

2.9. A prerequisite for participation in the Photo Contest is the compliance with environmental legislation of the Russian Federation, ethical treatment of animals and their habitats when shooting the photos, presented at the Photo Contest.

2.10. The photographers in order to achieve the desired picture must not break the natural way of life of the objects of shooting.

2.11. Digital effects on photos (treatment) must not distort the image content.

2.12. If the organizer of the Photo Contest has any doubts that the photo, provided for the Photo Contest, was got with the usage of cruel or illegal, including from an ethical point of view, actions, including the use of live bait, that kind of work will not be regarded.

2.13. The works of a poor quality provided for the contest or those ones in which it is impossible to produce authentication, will not be taken into consideration.

 

3.The Photo Contest Nominations

3.1.The Photo Contest includes the following nominations:

3.1.1.THE PEOPLES OF RUSSIA (photos, revealing the identity of indigenous peoples of Russia, which have not lost their culture in the age of information and modern technology, farming traditions and crafts, unique languages and centuries-old link of generations with wildlife);

3.1.2.THE MOST BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY. THE LANDSCAPE (landscapes of Russia, revealing the beauty of the wild nature of our Homeland);

3.1.3.WILD ANIMALS (on the nomination submitted pictures there must be captured unique moments of  life of wild animals);

3.1.4.BIRDS (scenes from the life of wild birds, their interaction with each other and the environment);

3.1.5.CAVES OF RUSSIA (pictures, depicting the beauty of mysterious and unique world of caves of Russia. The pictures of mines, tunnels and other artificial underground structures are not accepted);

3.1.6.MACROCOSM (photos of this nomination are revealing invisible beauty and complex organization of macrocosm);

3.1.7. FROM THE SUNSET TILL THE DAWN (photos, revealing the wildlife at night. Regardless of the subject the pictures should reflect the nature, transfer drama and the emotional of wildlife in the night);

3.1.8. THE UNDERSEA WORLD (photos, having captured the moments of life of marine and freshwater flora and fauna of Russia);

3.1.9. RUSSIA FROM THE BIRD`S-EYE-VIEW (the wild beauty reflection, seen from the air. Landscape, animal, plant or other living organism can be a subject. The pictures, collected from several photos, are not accepted to the nomination);

3.1.10. WORLD IS IN OUR HANDS (provocative pictures, demonstrating the way mankind affects the natural world of wild nature of Russia);

3.1.11. THE CULTURAL HERITAGE OF RUSSIA (the nomination is intended to draw attention to the material culture of our country, which is being on the verge of extinction);

3.1.12. YOUNGPHOTOGRAHER (A nomination for the beginner photographers aged 13 inclusively);

3.1.13. PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARD (the winner in this nomination is being determined by open public voting on the website of the Photo Contest).

3.2. The choice of the nomination, in which the participates the picture presented for the Photo Contest, is being conducted by the participant of the Photo Contest, and the work must correspond to the theme of the nomination.

 

4.Technical requirements

4.1. Competition works (the photos) must be presented in digital format (there are allowed the images of the scanned slides or transparencies, negatives of high resolution).

4.2. Digital files (photos) are provided in JPEG format, Adobe RGB (1998), 1920 pixels on long side.

4.3. The work provided for the Contest, should contain the following information: the name of the nomination of the Photo Contest and the name of the photo. For instance, «Birds_Flying Goose. jpeg».

4.4. For impartial expert assessment the participants of the Photo Contest must not specify their names neither on the picture nor in the picture title, nor in the EXIF-data capture in your photos.

4.5.The competition works must not have any copyright dies, added frames, watermarks, paintings, etc.

4.6.The levels, color tone, contrast, exposure, sharpening, noise reduction, removal of dust, stitched panoramic images are permitted provided that the authenticity of the photos is not broken and the real picture of nature is not distorted.

4.7. Framing of the pictures is permitted no more than 20% of the initial size of the frame.

4.8. The information about the photos, undergone processing, should be fully provided and should promote truthful depiction of reality.

4.9. Adding or removing objects, animals or their parts, or plants and people as well, etc. to or from the content of the photos is not allowed.

4.10. Photos EXIF-data should be available (for example, about the camera, lens, exposure, email address, phone, etc.).

4.11.The participants of the Photo Contest, the photos of whom passed to the third stage of the Photo Contest, must provide such kind of photos in TIFF 8-bit, Adobe RGB (1998) at full resolution. Photos should match the color and composition in original JPEG, presented when submitting photos to the Photo Contest.

4.12. In order to establish the authenticity of the photos, it is also necessary to provide RAW files or original and the corrected file in JPEG format, as well as original slides or negatives.

 

5.The procedure for submitting applications for the Photo Contest

5.1.The registration of participants of the Photo Contest (hereinafter called as a participant) and of their works takes place on the web-site of the Photo Contest.

5.2. The participant receives a login and password during the registration.

5.3.After that the participant is being sent confirmation of the registration to the e-mail specified during registration.

5.4. After completing the registration procedure the participant uploads the photos.

5.5.Each participant is allowed to provide not more than 25 pictures for the Photo Contest.

5.6.The participant independently chooses the nomination, in which the corresponding picture is about to take part.

5.7.The photos for participation in the Photo Contest, must be uploaded no later than the 31st of July, 2017.

Until that time the author has the right to edit, replace and / or delete the previously uploaded photos.

 

6. The allowance to participation in the Photo Contest

6.1. The prerequisite for admission to participate in the Photo Contest is filling of the participant profiles, acceptance of the terms and rules of the Photo Contest, as well as consent (permission) for use of the photos by the Society, which have been provided for participation in the Photo Contest, and with the methods provided for in this Regulation.

6.2. Admission to participation in the Photo Contest is being carried out in case they meet the requirements for photographs and other requirements of this Regulation, including the requirement that the participant is a legitimate copyright of the photos, provided for participation in the Photo Contest.

 

7. Evaluation of works. Determination of the winners of the Photo Contest

7.1. Evaluation of works, presented for the Photo Contest, is being carried out in the second stage by the members of the Expert Commission, having been formed of the leading photographers of Russia.

Evaluation of the works is being carried out by the members of the Expert Commission in a personal account of the participant on the website of the project. Each photo is being evaluated by the expert on a scale of 1-5. Then the system automatically chooses 100 works, which got the highest score in each nomination. There works pass to the semifinal. The organizer of the Photo Contest sends a request to each semi-finalist for provision of RAW-files, full-sized files, photo captions and specifications of shooting.

7.2. Evaluation of the works, having passed to the semifinal of the Photo Contest, is being conducted by the members of the Expert Commission internally, at the general meeting in the Head Quarters of the Society in Moscow, in the presence of the Chairman of the Jury.

The members of the Expert Commission are reviewing the 100 best works in each nomination, after that each member of the Expert Commission selects 2 (two) works in each nomination.

The best 10 photos in each nomination are being selected according to the decision of the Expert Commission. The Chairman of the Jury approves the choice of the Experts. The information of each nomination is being entered to the protocol.

7.3. The selected photos are undergoing additional inspection for the subject of authentication and compliance with the requirements of the competition (in terms of ethics, use of photo editors and so on.), and then they receive the status of the Photo Contest finalists. Photo Contest Organizer will notify the authors of works that they have reached the finals.

7.4. The photos having passed to the finals of the Photo Contest, are being evaluated by the Jury, which sums up the results of the Photo Contest and determines its winners: one winner in each nomination.

The members of the Jury are meeting at the Head Quarters of the Russian Geographical Society for the common work. For counting the final score of each photo there is selected counting commission which consists of three persons of the members of the Jury.

Each of the members of the Jury shall determine from among the finalists of the 3 best works in each category. Counting Commission sums up the votes for each photo. Photography, scored the maximum number of votes on the evaluation of the Jury, it is the nomination winner.

As a result of the work of the Jury and the counting commission there shall be drawn up the protocol indicating the winner in each nomination.

7.5. The members of the Expert Commission and the Jury have the right to transfer photos which have passed to the finals of the Photo Contest from one category to another.

7.6. Hit in the Top-10 category on the basis of the photo contest is not a prerequisite of exposure of the works in exhibitions and publications in the contest photo album.

7.7. In «The People`s Choice Award» nomination there are being included all photos, having passed to the third stage of the Photo Contest. The winner in this nomination is determined by an open vote on the website of the project: photo.rgo.ru.


8. The intellectual property right

8.1. Taking part in the Photo Contest, the participant guarantees that:

8.1.1. He is being legitimate copyright of the photos submitted to the Photo Contest and has the exclusive right against them;

8.1.2. The photos do not violate the laws of the Russian Federation, do not contain offensive information, and the information, contrary to generally accepted moral principles and values as well;

8.1.3. The Photos Content does not violate the rights of third parties;

8.1.4. If a third party in a judicial or other procedure will challenge the Society of its right to use the photographs, the participant has to take part in the proceedings on the side of the Society and to prove the legitimacy of the use of photos by the Society;

8.1.5. If the participant is not able to prove the legitimacy of use and disposal of photos, and the Society will be held liable, the participant is obliged to compensate the Society within ten (10) calendar days from the date of entry into force of the court decision and / or any other body, to consider the dispute, the court costs, the amount to be recovered from the Society to a third party, other costs associated with litigation.

8.2. In case of presentation to the Society of claims by the owners of copyright and / or related rights, by their authorized representatives or third parties concerning the use of photographs by the Society, the participant undertakes at its own expense to settle all disputes with third parties, having presented the corresponding claim.

8.3. The Copyright for pictures, represented at the Photo Contest, is retained by the authors of the relevant photos.

8.4. Taking part in the Photo Contest, the participant grants the Organizer the right (non-exclusive license) to distribute by selling the copies of the photos, provided for the Photo Contest, their reproduction, copying, publication, exhibition (public) displays, and public communication by any means as well, including on air and by cable, accommodation in the Internet (bringing to the public), including social networks, right to processing, as well as the right to conclude sub-license agreements with third parties within the limits of those rights granted to the Organizer in accordance with the present State. 

8.5. Term of use granted to the works of the competition, means established by this State, since the load on the website photo.rgo.ru, makes 7 years.

8.6. As soon as the participants of the Photo Contest upload photos on the website of the Photo Contest, they are automatically giving their consent to the use of their name and contest presented at the photos in the authorized purposes of the Society.

 

9. Finalprovisions

9.1. The Orginizer of the Photo Contest when remuneration to the winners of the Photo Contest performs the functions of a tax agent and holds the tax on income of physical persons from payment of the amount being made.

9.2. Participation in the Photo Contest (the fact of registration on the Photo Contest website) means:

9.2.1. Full and unconditional acceptance by the participant of terms and rules of the Photo Contest, set by the Organizer and compliance with requirements for participation in the Photo Contest, established by the Organizer;

9.2.2. The adoption by the participant of commitments to comply with conditions set by the Organizer and the rules of the Photo Contest;

9.2.3. Agreement for storage and processing of personal data of participants in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation on personal data;

9.2.4. Agreement for the use by the Society of the photos (loaded to the website of the Photo Contest) provided for the Photo Contest for statutory purposes.

9.3. Any breaking of the requirements for participation in the Photo Contest, set by the Organizer, is being the basis for not taking them into consideration.

9.4. The decisions of the Expert Commission and of the Jury are being final and not subject to revision.

9.5. The Organizer of the Photo Contest does not comment on the grounds and reasons of taking the decision by the Expert Commission and by the Jury.

9.6.The Organizer is not responsible for non-performance or improper performance of his obligations, having been the result of failures in the telecommunications and energy networks, action of malware, and unscrupulous actions of third parties as well, having been aimed at unauthorized access and/or disablement of software and / or hardware system of the Organizer.

9.7.The Organizer of the Photo Contest reserves the right to changes in the rules of the Photo Contest.
